DANEX 06:
On the beach the German sailors make sure that only the right people get out.

A long line of people is winding along the road. At this time Odd Shire is not a pleasent place to be and many want go get into the secured area where SNMG 1 is preparing to take people to safety. But not everybody can be evacuated.

“In this scenario we are amongst conflicting parties and we do not want to evacuate militia forces or terrorists. Therefore both in todays exercise and in a real life situation one of the most important and demanding tasks is to make sure that the right people get out,” explains Commander Chris Dickinson from the SNMG1 staff that leads the operation on Sjællands Odde.

In a secured area on a lawn tables have been set up. Here members of the crew from the German ship FGS AUGSBURG handle registration and screening of the little over 100 civilians participating in the exercise.

At the road the waiting civilians are led through the barbed wire entanglements. One by one they are examined with a metal detector and a few times the longish instrument beeps. One of the civilians has brought a knife. “You can have it back after the exercise,” the German sailor says firmly while the red pocket knife is removed from the pocket of the participant.

Suddenly a wounded person shows up. A young man has been in too close contact with the militsia forces and is bleeding from his leg. However, the German unit is well prepared  and in no time the wounded is taken aside, three medical assistants provide first aid and the access control can continue.

Every time ten persons have passed the access control they are escorted to a registration area where names and identification papers are verified. When they are cleared to go aboard the ships, they are placed in a waiting area. Here they get some food and something to drink while waiting for the rubber boat trip to safety.
