Definition

Civil-military Cooperation (CIMIC) are all actions and measures under any circumstance that concern the organized relationship between a military unit and civilian entities and individuals.

Aim

The aim of the course is to provide the individual student with a basic understanding of definition, aim, components, principle tasks, functions and organisation of CIMIC in general as well as in actual mission areas. After receiving additional mission oriented training, the student will be able to deploy and assume CIMIC duties within units and headquarters or agencies in Peace Support Operations, with focus on battalion and brigade level.

Course Syllabus

The course comprises the following subjects :

• General Orientation
• CIMIC Policy, Doctrine and Organization
• CIMIC Tactics, Techniques and Procedures
• Negotiation techniques and work with interpreters
• Cultural awareness and gender issues
• CIMIC Lessons Learned from former and ongoing Operations
• CIMIC Case studies and syndicate work
