Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization has announced 7 ea. used Sikorsky S-61A-1 (6 ea.) and S-61A-5 (1 ea.) helicopters, associated spare parts, ground support equipment and special tools for sale.

Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization hereby invite interested prospective buyers to make an offer on the helicopters, spare parts,
ground support equipment and special tools. Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization expect the inspections to take place in at the end of January/beginning of February 2011. Entering of contract is expected to be completed in March/April 2011.

The S-61A helicopters are a variation of the U.S. Navy model SH-3A incorporated with components from the commercial model S-61N (Main Rotor Head, Main Rotor Blades, Pylon with Intermediate-and Tail Gearbox, Tail Rotor Head and Tail Rotor Blades, large Sponsons). Furthermore a fuel cell (capacity of 256 US gallons) has replaced the Sonar System which provides the helicopter with a longer range.

The Sikorsky S-61A helicopters have served the Royal Danish Air Force since the mid 1960’ies (one of them since the beginning of the 1970’ies). The helicopters have been used for a variety of tasks for the Royal Danish Air Force such as Search and Rescue, transport of VIP and minor sling operations. The helicopters were delivered to the Royal Danish Air Force by United Aircraft International, Inc. (Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation), USA in 1965 and 1971. The helicopters, spare parts, ground support equipment and special tools were phased out and removed from service in June 2010 and replaced with the Augusta-Westland EH101 helicopters.

The Sikorsky S-61A helicopters are all in very good condition. 4 ea. of the helicopters are in airworthy condition and are operated on a monthly basis. Please note that some components have been removed from the 3 ea. remaining helicopters. The majority of the removed components are available and included in the sale of these 3 ea. helicopters.

The helicopters have undergone several modifications during the years of service. Each helicopter is equipped with following special features; Pitot Static Tubes, GPS Antennas, Two Hoists (one hydraulic and one electrical), Mountings for Cargo Sling operation (6.000 lbs), IBIS (In-flight Blade Inspection System – please note it contain an radioactive source), Bifilar Vibration Absorber, Radio Operators Consol, Intercom Foot Contact, Hover Trim Control (at Cargo Door), Two Hover Lights.
For further technical details on the 7 ea. helicopters, please see the “General Technical Specifications” in the menu on the left hand side.

The helicopters are all registered under the Royal Danish Air Force Military Aircraft Register. Being the certifying aerospace authority for military aircraft in Denmark, the Royal Danish Air Force does not require and does not seek authorization for overhaul, repair and modifications from the Civil Danish Aviation Authorities. However all scheduled, unscheduled maintenance and modifications have been carried out by the Royal Danish Air Force in accordance with United Aircraft International, Inc. (Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation), USA recommendations. The helicopters will be delivered without any registration at all (the Royal Danish Air Force military Aircraft registration will be removed).
