A quick change of clothes was necessary when Rear Admiral Nils Wang arrived in Frederikshavn today to start a tour of the Danish ships in the DANEX exercise. Because of the weather it was not possible to use a helicopter to get to the first stop on the tour: the corvette PETER TORDENSKIOLD. In stead the corvette’s rubber dinghy had to be used.

– It is important for me to visit all the units during DANEX. Of course I want to see how the exercise progresses but I also want to hear how the crews are feeling, says Nils Wang.

After the stay on PETER TORDENSKIOLD the tour went on to the patrol ship SKADEN and from there onwards to the support ship ESBERN SNARE. Tomorrow the transport ship SLEIPNER, the environmental protection vessel GUNNER SEIDENFADEN and the mine hunters STØREN and MAKRELEN will be visited. Earlier in the exercise Nils Wang has visited the corvette OLFERT FISCHER and the patrol ship VIBEN.

– It’s always great to be at sea with the crews. I really can’t keep myself from doing it and I probably am a bit addicted to it, the Admiral says with a laugh.
