Denmark contributes on a regular basis to NATO's Standing Naval Forces. The Danish warships normaly are deployed in NATO's Task Group 441.01, which is part of NATO's Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF). The purpose of the naval force is to demonstrate solidarity among NATO countries and stress the willingness and ability to protect NATO's population and territory against any aggression. Task Group 441.01 is one of NATO's four naval forces on high alert. 

 

From September to November 2023 the frigate Niels Juel is deployed to NATO's Task Group 441.01. 

 

With the deployment Danish frigates, Denmark is contributing to NATO's heightened readiness in response to Russia's attack on Ukraine and aggressive tone towards its European neighbors. The deployment of the Danish warship helps ensure that NATO has the necessary forces available to deter potential enemies from attacking Denmark or other NATO countries and, if necessary, defend NATO's territory.

 

The deployment to Task Group 441.01 is based on Danish Parliamentary decision B.127 of February 24, 2022.

 

The naval force's tasks may include all military maritime tasks, including supporting the establishment of local maritime control and securing maritime communication routes and the right to free navigation. The naval force may also support land and air forces. NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) determines the naval force's tasks.

 

The Danish frigates of the Niels Juel class og the Absalon class are modern and powerful warships equipped with high-tech sensors and weapons ready to face all types of threats and, if necessary, contribute to defending NATO's territory. During the deployment in the NATO naval force, the frigates are equipped with a weapons package for international operations. The frigates normaly has a Seahawk helicopter on board for the deployment period.

 

During the deployment in Task Group, the ships participate in naval exercises and train together. The deployment in the force helps keep the frigate's crew at a high level of training and readiness.

 

Task Group 441.01 is primarily operating in the North Atlantic and Baltic Sea.

The deployment in Task Group 441.01 takes place on the basis of Parliamentary Resolution B.127 from 24 February 2022.

 

NATO's four standing naval forces are multinational integrated forces, that ensures constant and visible proof of the alliance's solidarity and cohesion on the world's sea routes.

 

NATO seeks to increase security through cooperation and building of relationships in accordance with shared values, building of mutual security as well as respect for the right of individual nations to determine their own future.
