  • Journalism
  • Book production
  • News broadcasts and documentaries
  • Educational purposes
  • Exhibition purposes
  • Private use

Special rules apply to use for marketing or political purposes. See section 5.

It is not permitted to download photos and videos from the Danish Defence Media Archive and resell the images.

It is not permitted for commercial picture agencies to use photos and videos from the Danish Defence Media Archive.

It is not permitted to build your own collection of photos and videos from the Danish Defence Media Archive and redistribute it to others, i.e., to be a sub-supplier.

It is permitted to use photos and videos from the Danish Defence Media Archive for external commercial media use – e.g., in articles, newspapers, books, or TV productions.

3. Credit/Attribution

When using photos from the Danish Defence Media Archive, you must, as far as possible, credit the photographer. You can read the photographer's name in the information provided about the image. If neither a photographer nor a unit is listed under the "photographer" field, you must credit the Danish Defence.

If you are using the image in a context where you do not normally provide credit – e.g., in a PowerPoint presentation, a social media post, a wall decoration, or a roll-up banner – you may omit it.

The purpose of crediting is to acknowledge the Defence's photographers. For some employees – especially journalism interns – being credited is important when they apply for jobs as graduates.

Attribution for video is done by placing a label, for example, "Images from the Danish Defence," on a TV segment for a few seconds. In connection with longer productions, credit for either the Defence or the video photographers or journalists can be added at the end of the video.

4. Contributing photos to the Danish Defence Media Archive

If you, as an individual outside the Danish Ministry of Defence's area of responsibility, wish to contribute relevant photos or videos to the Danish Defence Media Archive, you must contact us via email: mediearkiv@mil.dk and agree on the conditions under which the Defence can use the images.

For the Defence, it is easiest to handle if the conditions are the same as those mentioned under sections 2 and 3.

5. Use of photos for marketing and political purposes

Images must not be used for marketing or political purposes without prior agreement with the editor. Contact the editor at mediearkiv@mil.dk.

Images with recognizable individuals must not be used to advertise commercial products, political parties, or organizations.

6. Violation of the rules

Use that does not respect the above will result in the Danish Defence Command taking the necessary steps to cease the misuse.
