The Danish Armed Forces are participating with four F-35 fighter jets and host nation support in NATO's annual nuclear air exercise, Steadfast Noon, which is being held from 13 to 24 October. During the exercise, a large number of aircraft from NATO member states are training together.

Steadfast Noon is an important element of NATO's nuclear mission and supports the Alliance's nuclear deterrence. Ultimately, the exercise is about maintaining the ability to ensure peace and stability by deterring aggression against NATO.

Increased activity in Danish airspace

At the specific request of NATO, Denmark has offered to make airspace over the North Sea available during the exercise. At the same time, there will be increased activity around Skrydstrup Air Base near Vojens.

The Danish contribution is an example of how Denmark, as a credible ally, contributes significantly to NATO's nuclear deterrence within the framework of Danish nuclear weapons policy.

The exercise involves aircraft capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear weapons. However, no allies will be flying with nuclear weapons during the exercise.

Steadfast Noon is an annual exercise that is planned well in advance and is not related to external actors.
