September 20, 2024 – Today marks a significant milestone in Nordic Defence Cooperation as we, the Chiefs of Defence of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, proudly announce the signing of the Nordic Defence Concept.

NATO accession of Sweden and Finland has provided an unprecedented opportunity to deepen our defence collaboration, bringing an operational focus to our collective efforts. The Nordic Defence Concept plays an important role in achieving the objectives of the NORDEFCO Vision 2030, agreed 30 April.

The Nordic Defence Concept describes overarching principles of our regional cooperation, enhancing our capability to act together in all security situations, in peace, crisis and armed conflict. This initiative was developed within NORDEFCO, reflecting our united commitment to strengthening the deterrence and defence of the Nordic region and the Euro-Atlantic Area in the framework of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, NATO.

This initiative represents an important step forward in our collective defence efforts, ensuring that our nations are well prepared to respond to any security challenges that may arise.

The Nordic Defence Concept not only fortifies our defence capabilities, but reinforces our roles as reliable and proactive Allies. Moving forward, we remain committed to continuously improving and adapting in response to the evolving security landscape.
